Are you ready for some good news? You’ve come farther than you think. Don’t give up now because, by God’s grace you’ve come farther than you realize! Join guest speaker Alan Wright as he gives a moving message about Forward Progress through God's blessing and worship. Text: Josh 1:1-9 You’re more than a conqueror in Christ! There’s more territory to take. There’s a lot of the promised land that you have not yet occupied, but don’t dare give up now because you have come farther than you think. By God’s grace, you can keep moving forward. It is tempting to feel overwhelmed or despaired when you focus on how much farther there is to go. But you’ve grown more spiritually than you realize- you have some spiritual resources in you that you didn’t use to have! You have some wisdom now that you didn’t use to have. You have some steel in your soul that didn’t use to be there. You know some people that you didn’t use to know. You understand the power of the Gospel more than you once did. You might be battle weary. You might be pandemic impatient. You might be unsure how you are going to take the next step – but, today, I believe God wants you to see how far you have come. I give you an invitation to focus on your forward progress! - Moses is dead: Have you noticed that the Lord doesn’t usually speak in euphemisms like we do? I note the direct speech here – not “Moses has entered my presence now” or “Moses has lived a full life and has departed” not “Moses has passed away” – just plain: Moses is dead. Joshua 1:1–2 (ESV) — 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. You’re Qualified: The reason that God started his motivational speech , Moses is dead, is that God needed Joshua to accept, 100%, that he was the man of the hour – that Joshua was 100% qualified for the conquest. It is impossible to move forward into a promised land if we remain attached to the means by which we got there! Moses is dead – but you’re not. It’s time to move forward. You can think about all the land you’ve yet to conquer – all the ways you haven’t matured in the Lord as much as you are going to, all the prayers that have not yet been manifested, all the healing that is still to come – and if that’s the focus, that’s where your heart and attitude will be, or you can focus on the forward progress. Future and Past meet: Unusual blending of future tense and past tense - Every place you will (future) step – I have given (past). There is a way with God that something can be already secured for you, but not yet appropriated by you. It is possible that he went to the cross for you and secured heaven for you, but you haven’t yet stepped into heaven. Heaven has been given you, but you haven’t stepped onto the streets of gold yet. You will, it is yours, but you just haven’t walked it out yet. It is possible that he went to the cross so that you would be healed – He bought it, He paid for it, but maybe you haven’t stepped into it yet. It is possible that he became your curse, and bought you every blessing – but that doesn’t meant that you have stepped your foot on everyone of those blessings. Spiritual growth depends on you walking out, step by step, blessings that have already been secured for you! Conclusion: Moses changed Joshua’s name – it was originally Hoshea – means “salvation” but he changed it to Yahoshea – or Yashua – if you put his name into Greek, it is Iesous – Which is the name Jesus. When you accept Christ, you become a beneficiary of the entirety of the spiritual inheritance that He came to restore! #DontGiveUp#JesusDiedForYou

SO THAT WHEN YOU START WORSHIPING THE SAVIOR FOR WHO HE IS IT WILL CAUSE YOU TO BREAK OFF ALL OF YOUR LIMITATIONS THAT WORSHIP WILL CREATE A HABITATION FOR GOD’S PRESENCE BECAUSE PSALMS 22:3 SAYS THAT GOD INHABITS THE PRAISES OF HIS PEOPLE… SO THAT HABITATION WILL BRING A GRAVITATION OF HIS PRESENCE AND THEN THE GRAVITATION WILL BRING ABOUT A VISITATION AS YOU LIFT YOUR HANDS AND VOICE IN EXALTATION AND THAT LADIES AND GENTLEMEN WILL BRING DEVESTATION TO THE ENEMY OF YOUR SOUL BUT HERE IS WHAT SOMETIMES HAPPENS… SOME PEOPLE COME IN WITH HESITATION AND THAT HESITATION BRINGS IN FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD WITH ALL OF ITS FRUSTRATION. AND WITH THAT FRUSTRATION COMES AGITATION. AND IF THINGS DON’T GO THE WAY I WANT IT TO GO IN THE SERVICE THEN THERE IS AN IRRITATION WHICH BRINGS WITHIN YOUR SOUL AND SPIRIT A VEXATION BECAUSE YOU LOOK AROUND AND NOTHING HAS CHANGED AND YOU ARE STILL IN YOUR SAME SITUATION… WHICH BRINGS AN INFESTATION OF NEGATIVE THOUGHTS THAT SPIRAL DOWN INTO A PIT OF ACCUSATION (SATAN IS THE ACCUSER OF THE BRETHEREN) OF THE ENEMY, WHO NOW WANTS TO PELT YOU WITH TEMPTATION. ITS ENOUGH TO GIVE YOU HEART PALPITATIONS… THAT IS WHY SOME OF YOU TODAY NEED A REVELATION OF THE GOODNESS OF GOD AND TRUE WORSHIP AND GIVE YOUR SPIRIT MAN RESUSCITATION… WORSHIP IS A RESPONSE! POINT 1. RESPOND TO HIS PRESENCE HOW WILL YOU RESPOND? RECEIVE HIS PROMISE THE ONE WHO MAKES THE PROMISE IS THE ONE ON THE HOOK – NOT THE PROMISEE BELIEVE AND RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT – POINT 2. RECEIVE HIS PRESENCE JOHN 20:19 The Apostles Commissioned 19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were [e]assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” 22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” HE FIRST SAYS PEACE BE WITH YOU – HE IS THE PRINCE OF PEACE THEN HE SAYS PEACE TO YOU HIS PRESENCE WE HAVE WITH US POINT 3. "I BELIEVE THAT THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON, AND ALSO AS THE YEAR COMES TO A CLOSE, (AND WE BEGIN A NEW YEAR) GOD WANTS US TO GAIN HIS PERSPECTIVE." Do you see how God sees? This week at Sojourn Church, Lead Pastor Chris McRae delivers an eye-opening sermon about gaining new perspectives and seeing life from God's point of view. POINT 1. DO YOU SEE WHAT I SEE? 1CORINTHIANS 2:9-16 9 But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God. 11 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? TO ANSWER THE QUESTION – ASK THE HOLY SPIRIT ASK THE SPIRIT OF GOD (SEARCHES ALL THINGS AND THEN REVEALS THEM TO US. TEACHES US GUIDES US (JOHN 16:13) 13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. LEAD US IN ALL TRUTH TELL YOU OF THINGS TO COME THE WORD OF GOD – PSALMS 119:105 – YOUR WORD IS A LAMP UNTO MY FEET AND A LIGHT UNTO MY PATH – PSALMS 119:18 - Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law. PSALMS 119:130 - The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. HIS NAME IS THE WORD OF GOD – ISAIAH 55:8,9 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. DO YOU SEE WHO I SEE? HERE LIES A QUESTION WITHIN A QUESTION…. HOW DO YOU SEE GOD? HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF? JOHN 14: 14 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many[a]mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.” 5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. The Father Revealed 7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.” 8 Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is sufficient for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. 11 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves. #ChristmasWeek

Encountering the one who desires to encounter us… HABAKKUK 2:1- I WILL STAND MY WATCH AND SET MYSELF ON THE RAMPART, AND WATCH TO SEE WHAT HE WILL SAY TO ME, AND WHAT I WILL ANSWER WHEN I AM CORRECTED. THEN THE LORD ANSWERED ME AND SAID: “WRITE THE VISION AND MAKE IT PLAIN ON TABLETS, THAT HE MAY RUN WHO READS IT. FOR THE VISION IS YET FOR AN APPOINTED TIME; BUT AT THE END IT WILL SPEAK, AND IT WILL NOT LIE. THOUGH IT TARRIES, WAIT FOR IT; BECAUSE IT WILL SURELY COME, IT WILL NOT TARRY – WE BELIEVE THAT THAT TIME IS NOW! NOW IS THE TIME TO LAUNCH IT AND PREPARE OUR BODY AND PEOPLE FOR WHAT GOD WILL DO IN US AND THROUGH US – HERE ARE THE NEXT STEPS: ENCOUNTER DISCOVER CONNECT MAKE A DIFFERENCE TODAY I AM GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT THE FIRST STEP – IF YOU HAVE YOUR BIBLES, TURN WITH ME TO JOHN 4:1-26 A Samaritan Woman Meets Her Messiah 4 Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John 2 (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples), 3 He left Judea and departed again to Galilee. 4 But He needed to go through Samaria. 5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. 9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” 15 The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. 35 Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest! 36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.” The Savior of the World 42 Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed [a]the Christ, the Savior of the world.” POINT 1. INTENTIONAL ENCOUNTER USUALLY, WHEN SPEAKING ABOUT THIS SUBJECT, YOU POINT OUT THE FACT THAT WE NEED TO BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT ENCOUNTERING JESUS – GOD HAS ALWAYS BEEN INTENTIONAL ABOUT ENCOUNTERING YOU/US. HE HAS ALWAYS BEEN IN HOT PERSUIT OF YOU – GOD HAS BEEN INTENTIONAL ABOUT ENCOUNTERING YOU – THAT’S WHY I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN LEARY OF SOMEONE SAYING “I FOUND THE LORD” HOW DO YOU FIND SOMEONE WHO WAS NEVER LOST? WE WERE LOST IN OUR TRESPASSES AND SINS – WHILE WE WERE YET SINNERS, CHRIST DIED FOR US – POINT 2. UNCONVENTIONAL ENCOUNTER – THE WOMAN AT THE WELL: WAS GOING ABOUT HER DAY GOING ABOUT HER ROUTINE THE ENCOUNTER SHE HAD WITH JESUS WAS OUT OF THE BOX AND NOT NORMAL. JESUS DEALT WITH DURING THAT ENCOUNTER: RACISM SEXISM ELITISM SIN THE WHOLE SHE-BANG WHEN YOU HAVE AN ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS, IT SHOULD ENCOMPASS ALL THE ISSUES POINT 3. INCOMPREHENSIBLE ENCOUNTER – 1CORINTHIANS 2:9 BUT AS IT IS WRITTEN: “EYE HAS NOT SEEN, NOR EAR HEARD, NOR HAVE ENTERED INTO THE HEART OF MAN THE THINGS WHICH GOD HAS PREPARED FOR THOSE WHO LOVE HIM” #FindingJesus#MeetingGod
Are you ready for some good news? You’ve come farther than you think. Don’t give up now because, by God’s grace you’ve come farther than you realize! Join guest speaker Alan Wright as he gives a moving message about Forward Progress through God's blessing and worship. Text: Josh 1:1-9 You’re more than a conqueror in Christ! There’s more territory to take. There’s a lot of the promised land that you have not yet occupied, but don’t dare give up now because you have come farther than you think. By God’s grace, you can keep moving forward. It is tempting to feel overwhelmed or despaired when you focus on how much farther there is to go. But you’ve grown more spiritually than you realize- you have some spiritual resources in you that you didn’t use to have! You have some wisdom now that you didn’t use to have. You have some steel in your soul that didn’t use to be there. You know some people that you didn’t use to know. You understand the power of the Gospel more than you once did. You might be battle weary. You might be pandemic impatient. You might be unsure how you are going to take the next step – but, today, I believe God wants you to see how far you have come. I give you an invitation to focus on your forward progress! - Moses is dead: Have you noticed that the Lord doesn’t usually speak in euphemisms like we do? I note the direct speech here – not “Moses has entered my presence now” or “Moses has lived a full life and has departed” not “Moses has passed away” – just plain: Moses is dead. Joshua 1:1–2 (ESV) — 1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, the Lord said to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ assistant, 2 “Moses my servant is dead. Now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, into the land that I am giving to them, to the people of Israel. You’re Qualified: The reason that God started his motivational speech , Moses is dead, is that God needed Joshua to accept, 100%, that he was the man of the hour – that Joshua was 100% qualified for the conquest. It is impossible to move forward into a promised land if we remain attached to the means by which we got there! Moses is dead – but you’re not. It’s time to move forward. You can think about all the land you’ve yet to conquer – all the ways you haven’t matured in the Lord as much as you are going to, all the prayers that have not yet been manifested, all the healing that is still to come – and if that’s the focus, that’s where your heart and attitude will be, or you can focus on the forward progress. Future and Past meet: Unusual blending of future tense and past tense - Every place you will (future) step – I have given (past). There is a way with God that something can be already secured for you, but not yet appropriated by you. It is possible that he went to the cross for you and secured heaven for you, but you haven’t yet stepped into heaven. Heaven has been given you, but you haven’t stepped onto the streets of gold yet. You will, it is yours, but you just haven’t walked it out yet. It is possible that he went to the cross so that you would be healed – He bought it, He paid for it, but maybe you haven’t stepped into it yet. It is possible that he became your curse, and bought you every blessing – but that doesn’t meant that you have stepped your foot on everyone of those blessings. Spiritual growth depends on you walking out, step by step, blessings that have already been secured for you! Conclusion: Moses changed Joshua’s name – it was originally Hoshea – means “salvation” but he changed it to Yahoshea – or Yashua – if you put his name into Greek, it is Iesous – Which is the name Jesus. When you accept Christ, you become a beneficiary of the entirety of the spiritual inheritance that He came to restore! #DontGiveUp#JesusDiedForYou

And the Lord added [q]to the church daily those who were being saved. Acts 20:35 I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak.
